General Inpatient Hospice Program (GIP)

The Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) established the General Inpatient Hospice (GIP) Program in 2001 to facilitate the delivery of inpatient hospice care within Maryland hospitals. The voluntary program allows hospitals to partner with licensed hospice providers to furnish general inpatient hospice services to hospice-enrolled patients while the hospice provider retains responsibility for the patient's hospice care. Hospitals participating in the GIP Program must maintain an approved agreement with a licensed hospice provider, submit required documentation to HSCRC, and comply with applicable reporting requirements. The Program helps ensure that hospice patients have access to appropriate inpatient care when medically necessary while preserving continuity of hospice services.
