Available Datasets for Public Use

HSCRC collects various data sets from all acute care hospitals and licensed specialty hospitals. By legislative mandate (COMAR 10.37.04, 10.37.01.08 and 10.37.06), these hospitals in Maryland are required to submit to the Commission both financial and confidential patient-level administrative data (referred to as “case mix data”) on all inpatient and outpatient hospital visits.

Patient-Level Case Mix Data

The patient-level case-mix data includes confidential patient-level administrative data abstracted from the medical record of each of the state’s approximately 700,000 inpatient discharges and 5.7 million outpatient visits annually.  This data is organized into inpatient and outpatient data sets. Hospitals report clinic, surgery and emergency room data as part of the outpatient dataset.
